Lukács Sándor Technical Highschool

The site of the Lukács Sándor Technical Highschool was the location of the infamous Budai úti barracks, from where, after weeks spent in the crowded Győr-sziget ghetto, on 11 and 14 June 1944, representatives of the Hungarian authorities and MÁV railways, under German supervision, crammed more than 5,000 Jewish Hungarian citizens from Győr and the surrounding area into cattle cars and set them on their fateful journey to the Auschwitz death camp.
